Are you working in an inclusive education set-up?
This short clip will help you understand and appreciate how different children perceive sarcasm. Some children, during an interaction, tend to focus merely on the literal meaning of words being spoken to them and miss out on reading the non verbal cues, sub-text, gestures or body language of the person interacting with them. Thereby might experience difficulty in making complete sense of the situation or receiving the intended message from the conversation.
Orienting and helping children figure out different types of facial expressions (emotions), voice tones, sub-text, body movements/gestures, and background score is the first step towards enabling them to connect or match words being spoken with non-verbal cues of the speaker to better understand or make sense of a situation or conversation.
