About Christoph Niemann

Christoph Niemann (born 1970 in Waiblingen, West Germany) is an illustrator, graphic designer, and (co-)author of several books including some children's books. He studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart under Heinz Edelmann. After his studies in Germany, he moved to New York City in 1997. His work has appeared on the covers of The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Magazine and American Illustration, and has won awards from AIGA, the Art Directors Club and American Illustration. Niemann is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale. He has been a speaker at Design Indaba Conference twice, in 2006 and 2013.

Ghada Wali is an award winning graphic designer from Egypt who believes graphic design can change the world. She holds a BA degree as one of the first design graduates of the German University in Cairo and a MA degree in Design from IED Istituto Europeo di Design, Florence, Italy. Rhod Gilbert is painfully shy. He might hide it well, but he can't even go into a cafe to buy a coffee. No joke. In fact, his social anxiety has had a massive effect on his life. Rhod's going to try find out why and what can be done. Talking to fellow shy comedian Greg Davies, other shy sufferers, and scientists, Rhod comes up with a radical solution for how we can all stand up to shyness. Rhod can stand up in front of 20,000 people and make them laugh for two hours solid. But he has always found it virtually impossible to talk to people one to one. From childhood, it has been a life-limiting condition. And in this Rhod is certainly not alone. It is estimated that nearly half the population in the UK have some manifestation of shyness and social anxiety. For many it is a minor irritation, for some it is a condition that can virtually destroy a life.

International Essay Contest for Young People is organized by Goi Peace Foundation in an effort to harness the energy, creativity and initiative of the world's youth in promoting a culture of peace and sustainable development. 5. Essays must be original and unpublished. Plagiarized entries will be rejected.

6. Essays must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.

7. Copyright of the essays entered will be assigned to the organizer.

Awards 

The following awards will be given in the Children’s category and Youth category respectively:

1st Prize: Certificate, prize of 100,000 Yen (approx. US$900 as of February 2018) and gift ... 1 entrant

2nd Prize: Certificate, prize of 50,000 Yen (approx. US$450 as of February 2018) and gift ... 2 entrants

3rd Prize: Certificate and gift ... 5 entrants

Honourable Mention: Certificate and gift ... 25 entrants

*1st prize winners will be invited to the award ceremony to be held in Tokyo, Japan on November 23, 2018 and will receive the Minister of Education Award. (Travel expenses will be covered by the organizer.)

*Additional awards (Recognition for Effort, Best School Award, School Incentive Award) will be given if applicable.

*All prize winners will be announced on October 31, 2018 (Japan time) on their website. Certificates and gifts will be mailed to the winners in December 2018.

*They are unable to answer individual inquiries concerning contest results.
